The son of American missionaries, I was raised in North Africa and France. I went to High School in Germany, and to university in the United States and Canada. I have been a professor since the late 1990s, but a songwriter for nearly forty years.
My sincere thanks to the many friends over the years who have played my songs with me: the boys in the illegal band at the Black Forest Academy (below, left); the young men of Inner Mission in Pennsylvania; Alan in Virginia Beach, for letting me record with his DX7; in Minnesota, my songwriting partner Larry, for teaching me about backup vocals, and Al Rodolosi, for our many blues jams; Bruce Harding in Toronto; more recently Robert in Germany as well as my sister Joy and her kids, just for liking my songs; and especially Doug Ens and Doug Dreger, two of the above mentioned boys, for music making in London (left) and Chapel Hill (right).
And, of course, there was the girl who first sat listening to me pound out Queen and Keith Green on the piano. She's still here, by the way.
